Baratza Vario W+ Grind-by-Weight All-Purpose Coffee Grinder, Black

The Vario W+ in black is the grind-by-weight workhorse for the home brewer who's done with timer drift and external scales. Same 54mm flat steel Ditting burrs as the commercial Forte, with a built-in load cell that doses to 0.1 grams. Matte black finish for a stainless or darker setup.

Why it works

• 54mm flat steel burrs from the commercial Forte line. Steel pulls a different flavor profile than ceramic, faster, with a touch more brightness. Same Ditting-made burr you'd find behind a brew bar, in a home-sized package.
• Built-in load-cell scale, 0.1g precision. Set a target weight, the grinder runs until it hits the dose and stops. No external scale, no timed-grind drift as beans age and the basket fills differently.
• Three weight presets. Espresso single, espresso double, filter brew, set once, recall any time. The dose is the dose, not "the dose this morning at this humidity."
• 220 grind settings. 10 macro x 22 micro, same range as the Vario+, just driven by weight instead of time.
• Metal grind chamber. Pulled from the commercial Forte line. Holds tolerances under daily use better than plastic equivalents.

Setup and care notes

Calibrate the scale on a level counter before first use. Steel burrs run 1,000+ lbs before flavor degrades. Brush the burr chamber weekly if you're pulling espresso daily.

Who it's for, who it isn't

Right for the home brewer who wants commercial-burr quality and weight-based dosing in one grinder, and is willing to pay for it. Not the right pick if you only brew filter coffee, in which case the Virtuoso+ does that job at a third of the price.
